How to Use Your BMW ENET Adapter

A complete step-by-step guide for beginners. Connect, code, and tune your BMW in minutes.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

From unboxing to your first coding session.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect

When you receive your ENET adapter, check the package contents:

  1. ENET WiFi Adapter or Cable
  2. Quick Start Guide (printed on the box)
  3. WiFi password sticker (on the adapter)
  4. USB cable (for Type-C models)

Step 2: Connect to Your Vehicle

Plug the ENET adapter into your BMW's OBD port, usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.

  1. Turn on the vehicle ignition (but do not start the engine)
  2. Locate the OBD port under the steering column
  3. Insert the ENET adapter firmly until it clicks
  4. Wait for the adapter LED to turn solid (indicates power)

Step 3: Connect Your Device

Connect your phone, tablet, or laptop to the adapter's WiFi network.

  1. Open WiFi settings on your device
  2. Select the network named "BMW-ENET-XXXX" (exact name on the adapter)
  3. Enter the password from the adapter sticker
  4. Wait for the connection indicator to show connected

Step 4: Open Your App

Launch your preferred BMW coding or tuning app.

  1. Open Bootmod3, MHD, BimmerCode, or BimmerLink
  2. The app should automatically detect the ENET connection
  3. If prompted, select "ENET" or "WiFi" as the connection type
  4. Follow the app-specific instructions to connect to your vehicle

Step 5: Read and Code

Once connected, you can read fault codes, code features, or flash tuning maps.

  1. Tap "Read Codes" to check for any fault codes
  2. Navigate to the feature you want to activate
  3. Toggle the setting and tap "Code" or "Write"
  4. Wait for the process to complete (usually 30-60 seconds)

Step 6: Disconnect Safely

Always disconnect properly to avoid communication errors.

  1. Close the app completely
  2. Disconnect from the WiFi network
  3. Turn off the vehicle ignition
  4. Wait 30 seconds before removing the adapter

Troubleshooting

Common issues and quick fixes.

Adapter Not Powering On

Check the OBD port fuse. Try a different vehicle to confirm the adapter is working. Contact support if the LED never turns on.

Cannot Connect to WiFi

Ensure you are entering the exact password from the sticker. Reset the adapter by unplugging it for 60 seconds.

App Not Detecting Vehicle

Verify the ignition is on (engine off). Check that you are connected to the correct WiFi network. Restart the app.

Coding Failed

Ensure stable voltage (battery >12V). Close all other apps. Try again with a stable internet connection if using cloud features.
